Why did the CAMEL WALK DOWN THE ROAD?

Because there was nothing else to do? Searching for water? Because it was told to.

One of the things I find so fascinating about so many of these photos from Bahrain are the horizon lines in most of the shots. If you live somewhere with ongoing expanses of flat land with no hills in site this will not seem foreign to you. But for me, seeing an obvious horizon line where the sky meets the ground is very unusual. I'd have to drive to the deserts of the Southwest or perhaps head to someplace like Kansas to see a horizon like this.

This is not the first post I've done featuring camels. Click here to read about camels in California in 1863.

  1. The horizon in Bahrain is two part, the level line of the sea with the flat line of the desert. Kind of like a very bad day at the beach when the tide has retreated and the parking lot is mile back, and the camels refuse to carry the cooler or the beach umbrella unless you get them a snowcone which costs $7 and the only flavor the icee-man has left is cherry which camels don't like whereupon they won't even walk unless you carry them which means two trips and then you forget the car keys are still in the camel bag back on the beach ... well you get the idea.

  2. The "Mountain of Smoke" is a hill in the Southern Governorate of Bahrain. At 134 m (440 ft) above mean sea level, it is the country's highest point. It's hardly even a hill.

    1. Higher than the highest spot on Midway Island. When a tsunami was coming we climbed to the top of the…28 feet high spot.
