CLASS A trailer

Ever been inside one of those Class A motorhomes that sells for around a half-million dollars? Mind blowing. Some of them look like Vegas on wheels. But some of them are stunning. I was in one years ago that was so beautiful all I could do was stand in the middle of the room and drool. Incredible cherry stained cabinets with no sharp edges, a bit of stained glass, luxury all around. You almost felt like you were aboard a classic and beautiful cruise ship from the first part of the 20th century. Unfortunately the company that made this beauty went out of business during the recession. I have never seen another rig to compare to it. But do the people in those expensive rigs have more fun than the family below?

On the back it says:

Inez & Vergil & her little boy with me. A flash taken inside our trailer.

So I guess the song "Over the River and Through the Woods" should be changed from "to grandmother's house we go" to "and here come grandmother's house to us."

On a SUMMER DAY…A Picnic Outside Grandma's Trailer Might Be Nice

Yesterday, Labor Day, I held my annual BBQ for family and friends. It takes days to prepare the yard and the food. In the end it's always good fun. Today I've spent recovering.

I imagine these two boys were visiting the trailer their grandparents lived in. Were grandma and grandpa just visiting, soon to again hit the open two lane road? Or had they taken the wheels off and planted themselves in this location? I know that awning had to be a challenge to get up and down and you wouldn't want to do it night after night.

Can you guess where the photographer sat?

ERNIE'S FAMILY in the snow

It's been quite awhile since I posted any photos from my secret passion...Ernie. I still have some photos of Ernie to post and they will trickle in, but once they're gone.... I have not found any new Ernie snapshots in a long time. I have bought up most of what I found of his daughter.

Today I give you Ernie's family in the snow in their neighborhood; they lived in a trailer. Other than saying they lived in a trailer I know nothing of their living situation.

I do have to say I once saw a guy on Pawn Stars that could have passed for an old Ernie. It had me wondering and I kept it on my DVR for quite awhile. Eventually I accidentally deleted it. Still, I like to think of Ernie spending his later years someplace warm.

ERNIE with his daughter

My time continues to be consumed with caring for my father. A week spent driving back and forth, back and forth each day to the hospital wore me out. The stress of his illness and uncertainty of the future has me thinking back on my childhood and better times.

My father has always been a loving man and my champion.

Here is another photo of Ernie with his daughter. I hope they shared an enduring bond.

I GUESS you had to be there

trailer w.ladder_tatteredandlost

I've been wondering this week what sort of a blogging post I would have done the other day when I was running a temperature of 102. Virus came in, virus went out. In the rubble I'm left with a confused brain and exhaustion. Trying to pick-up the pieces on jobs and make sense of all of it. Sort of like this Polaroid sent to me by my best friend. She gave little information other than "Florida" and "grandparents." It's one of those shots where you probably had to be there at the moment to get it. I'm thinking maybe taken for insurance purposes. Then again...maybe not. Trailers these days have pop-outs. So does this one. Trailers usually have ladders...on the back for easy roof access. This one...has a ladder...in front of the door! A prototype for today's modern trailer.

What's amazing is that this photo was never thrown away. For some reason it's been kept for decades. I wonder when the story that went with it got lost? And so now I'll keep the photo. Someone else down the line will have to decide to toss it, but then they might wonder about the story and so on and so forth. This little Polaroid has outlasted whatever purpose it originally had.
