VERA and the Sadness of War

This is one of the saddest messages I've ever read on the back of a photo. This came from a huge collection of photos Bert gave me yesterday. I don't know anything about Vera other than the story told below. Heartbreaking.

  1. Sad, indeed! I'm surprised that the writing on the back hasn't already bled through to the front.

  2. Funny you should mention that because I did find some photos that had unintended handwriting on them. It's obvious it was transferred from other photos. One photo is completely covered with copy backwards that looks like a pattern. Yes, it's nice that on this one the image has remained. It tells Vera's story.

  3. That is a fine rescue. It was a piece of someone's life. Good post.

  4. Vera may even get a larger audience because I've been contacted by a fellow who would like to put this photo in a book that's being published next year. So Vera's haunting story of war may go on to touch others.
