The UNKNOWN Couple

Found this a few weeks ago in a dollar bin. It's very damaged so I ran a filter to "fix" it enough to view because I want you all to decide if it's a man or a woman on the right. Both have rouge on their cheeks thanks to someone thinking that was necessary. And actually, without the fix of the shot the details aren't as easy to see.

So two guys hanging around or a guy and a gal? I'm thinking they headed west to seek their fortune and found Northern California to their liking. How they ended up in a dollar bin is a whole other story.

maybe I should have taken that job with the circus. I'd have been in Poughkeepsie by now.

Real Man or MANNEQUIN?

The fella comes home from work hoping for a hot meal.

"Where's my pot roast? I'm hungry."

The woman, in the kitchen, hears his voice and sighs. She walks to the dining room, drying her hands on her apron.

"Listen dummy, you'll get your pot roast when I'm good and ready to serve it to you!"

And so it goes each night in the home of Mary and her hubby, the Man-nequin.

Seriously, is this a photo of a man or a mannequin? I'm open to all suggestions.

CASTING CALL!

Open casting call for man to play time traveler. Must be willing to relocate. Ideal candidate will have an easy manner, how should I say...a je ne said quoi. Good sense of humor a plus. Ability to make small talk and love of jazz required. Historical clothes will be provided, though we'd suggest bringing your own undies if you do not wish to wear authentic undergarments of time period. No pay, but will provide references upon completion. Travel stipend will be provided. Good luck.

Any suggestions as to who we should cast for this part?

Photobooth GIRLFRIENDS

So, did he push the first one out of the booth real fast so the second could get in? Was he a photobooth lothario?

Male POLE SITTER

I'm sure eventually some poor soul will find this post when searching "male pole sitter" and will be very disappointed. Keep moving. Nothing to see here.

When you CAN'T SEE THE FOREST for the man

I don't find pristine tintypes. I find tintypes that are bent, and jagged, and scuffed. But somehow the rosy cheeks always manage to come through the turmoil of 100+ years. This particular image has more damage than you can imagine. Right through the horizontal middle it's severely bent. I'm actually surprised it scanned as nicely as it did.

So would you call the scratches patina? In this case patina brings down the photos value which means it's cheap enough for me to buy.

My imaginings say this fellow had this shot taken in San Francisco and that he was of Italian descent. The truth is, I have no idea. He could be a pool hustler from Poughkeepsie. Or perhaps he was in a tour group of famous faces and his job was to pretend to be Bat Masterson. Heck, almost all guys back then seem to have looked like Bat Masterson. That's the problem with these old images. Everyone looks like a cardboard cut-out.

So I give you "Cardboard Cut-Out of Man With Trees."

BOASTFUL

This is my contribution to this weeks Sepia Saturday.

I have no information about either of the subjects of this photo other than what can be gleaned from their poses. I'm guessing they both thought of themselves as pretty tough he-men.
