Found this a few weeks ago in a dollar bin. It's very damaged so I ran a filter to "fix" it enough to view because I want you all to decide if it's a man or a woman on the right. Both have rouge on their cheeks thanks to someone thinking that was necessary. And actually, without the fix of the shot the details aren't as easy to see.
So two guys hanging around or a guy and a gal? I'm thinking they headed west to seek their fortune and found Northern California to their liking. How they ended up in a dollar bin is a whole other story.

It certainly looks like a woman's face in shape, but the hands seem large and manish. Is it a tintype? I've seen a number of old photos with women cross-dressing, often in men's uniforms. Maybe it was a kind of holiday resort fad.
ReplyDeleteIt does look like a tintype, but it feels more plastic which would explain the crazing all over it. It's glued onto a larger piece of paper. I've seen ones like this before but don't know what they're called.
DeleteMan on the left, woman on the right. I'd suggest looking up the photos of Marie Hoeg and Bolette Berg. They were partners in a photo studio in Norway.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the very interesting lead.
DeleteYes, I agree with the "crowd" and think it is a woman on the right side. Ill-fitting clothes...
ReplyDeleteVery ill-fitting clothes. Bargain basement wear.
