CHRISTMAS: Opening packages with ERNIE

It's that time of year when we either gather with family and friends or make up an excuse to run full tilt in the other direction.

Here we have our friend Ernie gathering with one or the other. I'm guessing family. Ernie at Christmas; we've seen this before.

Ernie is a favorite "category" of mine only available at one antique store. Every time I go to the store I hope to find a new image of Ernie. Just when I think I've found the last another one pops up. Keeps me going back. And each time I leave the store I fear I will never find another image of Ernie, another moment captured in his life.

Last year I featured 4 posts in a row following Christmas called "One Man's Christmas." You can see part 1 here, 2 here, 3 here, and 4 here. I'd found all of these images on Christmas Eve. Perhaps I need to stop by the store this Christmas Eve to see if Ernie is there celebrating.

There will be more of Ernie this week. Think of it as a buffet of Ernie and that's about as close as I can get to this weeks Sepia Saturday theme which means I'm not on theme at all.

  1. When I saw the title of your post I knew what it was about. I couldn't have been more incorrect.
ERNIE is the UK Electronic Random Number thingy that selects, randomly of course, the winners of the of the monthly Premium Bond draw.
Your Ernie at least is sure of a surprise; our Ernie has never given us one.

  3. Bond. James Bond.

What is a Premium Bond draw? I'm guessing a lottery?

  4. The thing I love about that picture is the stuffed dog watching the people.

I wonder why the Ernie pictures aren't all together.

  5. Yes, the dog is a joy.

I have a feeling the dealer at this particular booth at the antique store has a big box of photos that he uses to replenish the box at the store. Believe me, I stand there for a few hours just stacking and sorting so I grab the Ernie shots when I find them. These days I'm finding more of his little girl which shows the trailer they lived in.

  6. A Premium Bond is a lottery bond issued by the United Kingdom government's National Savings and Investments scheme. The government promises to buy back the bond, on request, for its original price. They were introduced by Harold Macmillan in his 1956 budget. (Wikipedia) Everyone is always hoping Ernie will cough up their numbers but you have to hold huge amounts of bonds as the ods are stacked against you.

It’s amazing that your Ernie keeps being ‘coughed up’ though. Here’s to you finding some more.

  7. I love the chaos of wrapping paper everywhere! Can't wait to see more of Ernie. I wonder if he has such a faithful follower who is not a 'secret' admirer!

  8. I am totally lost as to who or what ERNIE is. I like the dog watching the action. Reminds me of my kids in the 60s even had those same end tables. Merry Christmas

  12. That huge stuffed dog is a hoot! Quite attentive. I love the faded colors of these old pictures.

  13. Neat collection. A photo version of "Where's Waldo?" played in antique shops!

  14. Mike, you are so right. It is like "Where's Waldo?" I hadn't thought about that. I do get a little giddy when I find a new shot from Ernie's life.
