A WELL-TO-DO brother and sister

Just making it under the wire I give you my contribution to this weeks Sepia Saturday. Trying to clean the house and prepare food for our annual BBQ had me wondering if I'd find time to get here. So now before my guests arrive...

Taking a leap with Alan's theme I give you two children from a well-to-do family. These photos were purchased at an estate sale many years ago. I do not know what became of the little boy, but the woman married a Naval officer. She had two children, a son and daughter. I do not know what became of the daughter, but the son was killed in an experimental plane crash. I do not know if she was alive when this happened. I have a few photos of her with her son and her as a bride. She was a beautiful child who grew into a beautiful woman.

This first image was taken in Davenport, Iowa by Hostetler. I have no information about the second photographer. Both are very large prints.

Attention Genealogists

If you'll be attending the Federation of Genealogical Societies conference this coming week in Springfield, Illinois drop by booth 809 and say "Hi" to my friend Lorel Kapke, creator of genealogy software Sort Your Story.

  1. That first photo is so sweet. She is adorable, and the boy looks sweet and good-natured. I wonder if he got tired of wearing sailor suits.

  2. They are both sweet and very classic looking photos. I suspect they were taken by a family member with a photography hobby, both because of the settings and the shadows on the second one.

  3. They are two really wonderful photos. The family history you know of these strangers still makes it fascinating. Have a great BBQ.

  4. Darling children, and they are dressed so well! My grandmother had the same hairdo ...funny how that must have been the style then! Have a great weekend!

  5. Both portraits are definitely up-market, but I find the shadows on the wall in the second one a little od, and perhaps even a little disturbing.

  6. Both pictures are lovely. Very clear and sharp and definitely have the professional look. The little tea table setting is very endearing.

  7. Is that a toy tea set in the first picture and are these studio props? I'm not surethe bow goes too well with the sailor suit in the second photo.

  9. Remove the TV and computer, and you return to the days when all there was for entertainment was your sister or brother sitting across the table. A very fine pair.

  10. Lovely old photos..I wonder if they were taken the same day? The only thing different seems to be the little girls hair..she was a real cutie:)
