This fellow, we will now call him Ernie, is trying so hard. The child in snapshot 1 was sitting and staring at the bedsheet covering the table beneath the Christmas tree. We now find Ernie trying to give her encouragement that domestic toys are fun.
Come back tomorrow to see more of One Man's Christmas.
This is part 2 of a 4 part Sepia Saturday post.
That is such a great classic toy she has. I can't remember what they're called, but I love them and the sound they made.
ReplyDeleteI also had one of those musical roller toys, just like the one pictured, and I, too, do not know what they were called then. But I do recall it being very loud -- and it drove everyone else in the house absolutely crazy. What fun it was!
ReplyDeleteI have learned that the musical roller [push/pull] toy pictured was known as the "Musical Chime" that was produced by Fisher-Price for many years. Mine was probably made about 1950.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, the commercial name as opposed to the name parents ended up using which probably consisted of some expletive followed by the name of the person who'd given the thing to the child.
DeleteThe company still makes a similar toy that is smaller, looks a bit different and is mostly plastic [the original was made of metal and wood]. I suppose it has lost much of its most annoying quality, too. More's the pity.
ReplyDeleteIt probably has a computer chip in it now withe a Made in China rinkdinky repetitive sound. I gave a child a Fisher Price pull toy a few years ago that I got from Vermont Country Store. It's a pull toy that quacks. I was happy to find out it makes a racket. Since I don't have to listen to it that's what I was going for.
