CHARLES SHIRO with son?

Another couple slides from Spring Lake, Vermont in August of 1956. Yesterday I featured Mary and Charles Shiro. Today we have Charles with a child. His son? Probably, but there's nothing written on either of the slides below to indicate who these kids are.

    1. Let's hope it wasn't torn down or "modernized".

    2. I am almost positive this place is the Spring Lake Bath and Tennis Club in NJ. Perhaps the writing says BT and not VT? It opened in the late 1890s and is still there.

    3. Donald didn't write VT, he wrote Vermont on all of the shots. So I'm still thinking this might be a place that is gone. There are a few other shots I'll get to from Vermont that don't include Charles and Mary.

  2. Is swimming a category? It should be. These costumes are very period. I can remember my dad had striped trunks like that. Fortunately I never wore a fish shirt.

    1. Indeed, a good category.

I think printed swim trunks were one of the few places where fellas could go a little wild, though I generally remember my dad wearing plaid until we moved to Hawaii.

  3. There is a Charles H. Shiro that lived in a lot of places, including Manhattan, NY and Spring Lake, NJ that did all sorts of "jet setting" in the 1955-60 range from NY to London, Paris, Puerto Rico and from the west coast to Hawaii, Alaska and Japan. He never seems to have taken his wife - and is listed as an Engineer in a couple records. He was born c. 1912.

    1. Could definitely be correct. I would imagine that Donald had friends who were engineers as he worked in the oil business.

This is my grandfather and father. This IS the Spring Lake Bath & Tennis Club which exists today and my family are still members. It is NJ in Spring Lake, NJ. The salt water pool and lockers are still there. I would love to get copies of these if I can. Thanks, Nicole Shiro

    1. Please send me an email. My address can be found by scrolling down the left column to "view my complete profile." I did send digital files to a woman at the club months ago that were supposed to be passed along to a member of the family. But I will happily resend them to you. Just provide me your address by emailing me. Do not post it here.
