DECONSTRUCTING the class

Another school class photo to be deconstructed. Sadly, it has a large tear with tape on it, but still worth the pittance I paid for it.

Little girls with hair bows lined up in the back rows. I will say that this class had some of the most good looking boys in it that I've ever seen. Really stunning boys that must have had the young girls hearts a flutter.

No information on where this was taken.

    1. Can you imagine the kid sitting behind them in class, unable to read the blackboard?

  2. It is amazing how much more of the unique quality of each child becomes apparent when you single out the faces!

    1. As a group the various personalities just sort of blur together. I like to think of these as the images their parents would have loved to have had instead of the group shot.

  3. I've come though this backwards and am amazed at the effect you've achieved. Such beautiful faces take on unique emotions when the focus moves to the individual.

    1. Thanks Mike! And I love all your accurate suggestions as to who each child was, how they fit into the whole.

I've seen several photo/art galleries that print photo images onto small canvas box squares and arrange them into a grid. This group of children would be perfect for that. And they are also a terrific representation of the mix of ethnic faces in early 20th century America. It's a photograph suitable for a Ken Burns documentary.

    1. That would be fascinating to see them arranged like that in dimension with the ones each row back getting a little smaller. Interesting idea.

This photo was a buck and nobody had bought it, I'm imagining because of the tape. I saw the faces and clothing and fell in love with them. One of the most interesting group of schoolchildren I've collected. More kids to come.
