Brothers, CAIN AND ABEL

I look at these boys, brothers no doubt, and think of Cain and Abel. The one with a slight smile, the other unemotional. I also think of the two brothers in East of Eden.

I have no information about these boys. We bring to them what we want.

I find it interesting that their hair parts in different directions. Perhaps they're twins and the mother parted their hair differently so she could tell them apart. However, the one on the left looks slightly younger.

  1. They look like identical twins...

ears, chin, nose, mouth etc so identical.

Would it be more unusual that two brothers would be so identical or that a set of identical twins would have one slightly smaller or have been over whelmed in the womb by a stronger sibling?

    Very interesting.

  2. They do look so similar. But the one is definitely smaller. Nothing written on the back or written in the album. And I'm not finding any other photos of them.

  3. They could be, as the phrase goes, Irish twins, meaning they are less than a year apart. I'm Irish myself so I guess I can say it.

  4. Funny you'd say that because my best friend and I were just discussing through email today about her grandchildren less than a year apart nearly being twins.

  5. I have never heard the term "Irish twin" before. I had a sister who was less than a year older than me... I thought about that while looking at the picture. We didn't look anything alike.

Seems like twins always have a larger more healthy one... faternal that is... I just have never seen identical twins, that I recall, where one was noticably larger.

  6. Gorgeous picture and so well preserved! If they're not twins, they can't be more than a year apart.

  7. This photo is from the same scrapbook as the fellow cutting the cake. It's a memory scrapbook of a husband and wife. And I didn't even get the good photo album. I could only afford the left overs.

  8. I can't think of Cain and Able without the obvious jump to East of Eden. The human condition never ceases to amaze me. -J

  9. Yes, the style of clothes had me thinking East of Eden. And then the two subtle expressions.
