FOOTBALL fans in 1954

It's November 1954 and Princeton is playing Yale. We can once again thank Donald G. Schnabel for these snapshots. And again I'm able to find theme photos for Sepia Saturday because of Donald.

Imagine getting dressed up like this to go to a game. People don't even get this dressed up to go to work. Well, not in California. Different times nicely captured in old 35 mm Kodachrome slides.

This first shot is of Betty with a fellow who was in some of Donald's shots from Paris that I posted in January. No idea who he was.

The rest of these folks are all unknown, but oh my they look so stylish.

Oh yeah, the game. Views of the game from the nosebleed section.

Who won? Scroll down to find out.

The HOME TEAM

These fellows are from the same page as all the previous young ladies from Bill and Dick's Excellent Adventure album. I do not see either Bill or Dick in this shot, but then I'm not always really good at spotting them.

As to the purpose of this gathering...haven't a clue. Well, that's not completely true. I did find this odd object in the hand of one fellow. Part of a baseball bat? Any guesses?

And now gentlemen, time for some of your close-ups.

If nothing else, they're men in hats.

NEW MIRACLE CREAM helps you deny your age!

Oh sure, there are lots of ads online for creams claiming they'll fade age spots, wrinkles, turkey necks. They show examples which are always suspect. None have an example like this!

Imagine, this little lad was 64 years old in February of 1925! This kid found the fountain of youth...

or someone didn't complete the caption.

A few years BEFORE THE FALL

On the back of this snapshot, bought at an estate sale, it says "In New York City 1925." There they are, at around 3:20 pm, according to the clocks seen in the shot, enjoying the afternoon sun. Within 4 years some were jumping out of buildings in distress over the market crash. I have no idea what street this is in NYC. I find it fascinating all of the men are wearing straw boaters. The uniform of the day. Or was it Straw Boat Friday?

It really does look like a canyon. It reminds me of some of the closed in canyons you find in the Southwest. Walk through parts of Zion in the afternoon and see the deep shadows. New York City is full of man made canyons only a little over 100 years old compared to the natural canyons created over millions of years. Have to admit, I'll take the natural canyons and their silence over the noise of a big city.
