DOLLS, they're a category: Part 1

I'm a doll collector and have been since I was a child. Years ago I had to stop because there was simply no room left in the cabinet. I have too many to count.

For awhile I was buying paper dolls because a small amount of space can accommodate a decent collection.

Now, I collect photos of little girls with their dolls when I see one that strikes my fancy. How fortuitous that this weeks Sepia Saturday is a little girl in a beautiful shot with two dolls. I can handle that theme, though I cannot match the beauty of the shot Alan has posted.

So for the next week I will feature a photo each day containing a doll. Stay for just this one or drop back in to see what others I show between now and next Monday.

And if you like paper dolls you might want to check out my post at Tattered and Lost Ephemera where this week I'll feature paper dolls.

  1. Well, of corse I am smitten. I felt guilty when Alan took up my half-joking suggestion, but now I’m pleased I did. I used to collect dolls but it was one of the things that had to be culled (though I still have a few). I look forward to seeing the daily offerings.

  4. The little girl is so cute. I love the big bow in her hair. The doll doesn't look very comfortable in that position.

  6. That child's face is so sweet and she looks like she is so proud of her "baby."

  7. Weird, I can't see the photo that you posted, I'll check out your blog through IE instead of Firefox. I love your plan of posting a photo a day!

  8. This photo has so much great detail, from the girl's outfit and bow, to the stroller and the doll, and, of course, the darling girl herself.

  11. She is indeed darling. Love the bow. I think the baby doll does not bend in the middle and does look uncomfortable in the photo. Nice photo. Perfect for this week.

  12. We all comment how cute a little girl was with her doll, but it was serious business back then looking after the welfare of the little dolls. One had to watch out for brothers who used to torment us by hiding them on us sometimes......(but they always returned them in the end).

  14. I've never been a huge fan of "baby" dolls, apart from when I was a toddler, but I adored paper dolls! You're making me remember those little fold-tabs that it was so exciting to wrap around the doll in expectation of a beautiful ensemble.

that little girl is sooo cute! Im collecting old toy photos myself, ha! Because as you said, the dolls take up too much space, I collect toys in general, so a photo hobby takes up far less space as you said. We always need a hobby dont we? I look forward to all the doll photos!

  17. A lovely choice and a great example of another genre of vintage photos.

  18. As I am discovering as I go around all the SS posts, dolls come in all shapes and sizes. The common element is the obvious love they are held in by their owners.

  19. Indeed Alan. There are those who hate dolls, seeing nothing but creepy eyes staring back at them. Then are those of us who have fond memories of dolls from our childhood that were friends. As I've gotten older I see them as an art form.
