FIRST CHRISTMAS in 1943

I have a large box of slides that feature this little girl. They begin in 1943 when she was born and end in the late 40s. Though there is some writing on some of the slides, I have yet to find her name. So her brief life in slides will have to suffice without any identity.

This must have been her first Christmas.

Visiting the YMCA in SCOTLAND DURING WORLD WAR I

As soon as I saw the image for Sepia Saturday this week I knew exactly which photo I needed to feature. The problem…where did I put it?

This real photo post card is from a collection of cards that belonged to my Scottish maternal grandmother. There is nothing written on the back so I have no idea who any of these folks are. I am guessing it was taken in Scotland. Perhaps some of these people were friends of my grandmother; none of them look familiar.

There are a lot of stories here that we'll never know, but oh my it is fun to speculate.

A BLUE CHRISTMAS for One Fella

A couple days ago I finally saw the police report for the accident I was recently in. Oyyyyyyy, someone is going to have a really bad Christmas. I will give the fella who caused the accident good points for honesty, because I think most people might have withheld some of the following information since nobody pulled over to be a witness.

The fella admitted to driving 70 mph on a two lane road, tailgating, crossing the double yellow lines, and worst of all to be talking on a cell phone when the accident happened. I have a strong hatred of people driving with one hand on the wheel and the other on a cell phone. If I could do a citizens arrest I would.

So beside the fellas car being totaled I imagine he will also loose his insurance because the costs of this accident keeps going up.

I feel no anger towards him. He behaved stupidly, but it wasn't with malicious intent. It was an accident and he owned up to it.

Now, this image may or may not have been an accident. Did someone finally break and say, "I'm tired of Mitchell parking his car in front of our house! I'll show him." And then did the man storm out of his house with the new chainsaw he got for Christmas?

I have featured items from a scrapbook my friend Bert gave me at my other site, Tattered and Lost Ephemera. The scrapbook was created by Montez Lawton, an elementary schoolteacher, in the San Francisco Bay Area.

This Christmas photo card is from the scrapbook. I have no idea what the little boy is holding, but I can see the very cool cowboy shirt (checkout Tattered and Lost: Buckaroos and Buckarettes).

Lost AT SEA

The prompt for Sepia Saturday this week had me immediately thinking of this snapshot: Robinson Crusoe, lost at sea, saltwater no matter where you look.

If you've ever been to sea on something other than the behemoths that cruise today you'll know that feeling of watching the sea, watching the sky, watching the sea, watching the sky…. You'll also recognize the stance the fellow has taken. Just looking at this has me reaching for the saltine crackers.
