The MAN WITH THE PIPE in the cold

This is Mr. Roberts with a pipe...next to the civilian...who is next to the sailor...who is next to the woman...who is next to the sailor...who is above the parrot...which is next to the medal...on the page of Mr. Roberts scrapbook.

Only a few more to go on this page in Mr. Roberts scrapbook.

MR. ROBERTS

Here is Mr. Roberts at sea. This photo is directly above the photo of the parrot...which is next to the medal....that sits on the page...with Mr. Roberts. You'll need to figure out your own punchline.

PARROTS AND MEDALS, pretty much the same thing

I give you the parrot. The parrot next to the medal. The parrot next to the medal in the book owned by the sailor. Only if you've seen yesterday's post will this make sense, and even then it's doubtful. It's a dead parrot.

And now for something completely different.

It was just a little MEDAL

This little photo of a medal is in a small album that belonged to a military man. I've shown photos of him, Mr. Roberts, in the past in Yosemite and elsewhere.

Click on image to see it larger though I have no idea why.

When I was at his home for the estate sale there was a whole room full of things from his years in the Coast Guard. Lots of film he shot in Alaska in the 1930s in cans that I would have loved to have bought. Medals, flags, and papers. I stood in the room and looked around at his life, trying to take it all in. He'd been on many adventures. I settled for a stack of photos and one small album that contains this shot.

I do not know what the medal represents. The photo is very very small and stuck on a page of Mr. Roberts with different women. Oh, and a shot of a parrot is next to the medal.

Medals and parrots, pretty much the same thing.

UNCLE Joshua

Uncle Joshua always looked like a giant to us kids. He towered above all of us. He had huge feet and then just sort of tapered to a tiny head. He looked taller than all of us even when we grew up. That was...until...we realized Uncle Joshua carried a distortion mirror with him and we were never actually looking at him. See, Uncle Joshua used to travel the country as a carnie back in the early 30s and when the carnival broke up Uncle Joshua got the collection of mirrors, but no pay check. He used it to his advantage to make people thing he was a bigger man than he was.

Okay, I could go on and on with this, but the truth is I haven't a clue. This is from a very large envelope of negatives. I also have the photo album that goes with the negs. There are hundreds of vernacular photo prints and negs making me a happy camper.

When I scanned this my first reaction was "Oh shoot, something is wrong with my scanner! That dude on the left looks distorted!" I checked all the other happy faces for some sort of body parts uniqueness but they all looked normal, including the Shirley Temple look alike in the front. I just don't get that guy with the hat. Okay, I'm sure it's the angle the camera was held, but...but...maybe he really did have huge feet and a peanut head.

Why do I keep finding BOYS IN DRESSES?

My theory, and I stand behind it, is that all these vernacular photos I keep finding of boys in dresses is really just a result of little girls getting head lice. Poor things have had their heads shaved and we now see photos of them as it's slowly growing back. Their "crowning glory" filled with buggies. Sad, very sad...and itchy, very itchy.

This little girl, or boy in a dress, is also barely hair there. Sounds like a name for a children's book. Anyway, this is from the envelope of 29 negatives.

My other two posts of little boys/girls in dresses:
