Sitting Quietly in a HOTEL ROOM

The person who sold this image on ebay said the woman was sitting in a hotel room. There is nothing written on the back to indicate this is true. What do you think indicates it's most likely a hotel room and not just this woman's bedroom?

I think it's a lovely room with the soft light. And if it's a hotel room is she reading a Gideon Bible? I travelled a lot as a kid with many motels coast to coast and a few old hotels. It never failed that I'd find a Gideon Bible in the drawer. Of course I checked for free postcards and stationary first because they were never a given. But the Bible in the nightstand was always there. It actually made me laugh when I was a kid because I wondered who this person Gideon was who kept hiding books in the drawers.

A man's home is his CASTLE...

but a comfy room will do nicely for a woman. I think most women want a nest. It could be a sparse nest or one brimming with treasures, but not a castle. A castle is too much to clean. A castle is for a bloated ego. A quiet room will do quite nicely, thank you.

I have no information on this image. This woman has her treasures nicely arranged. This room was important to her. I wish all women had a room that was important to them where they could feel safe being themselves.

This is my submission for this weeks Sepia Saturday.

LAURA Playing Her Harp in Her Boudoir

Our final glimpse into Laura's life. A boudoir shot. Did she have two harps or did she have to drag this one through the house? Was the house single floor or did she bump this thing up the stairs?

So we leave Laura alone with her thoughts and her harp. Well, she's not really alone, is she? The photographer is there and most likely her mother...and the person shining the bright light.

Now who in the heck were these taken for? Who was it that her mother wanted to impress? Create your own story.

From PRETEEN to TEEN in the 1950s

Before there was the internet or 800 numbers there was shop through the mail. A box arrived with something you'd ordered out of a catalog. There was no overnight shipping. You waited anxiously for your order to arrive. Catalogs were wish books. And what better thing to do than go through the wish book with a friend, each pointing to things you want and will never have. Shopping and teenagers just seem to go together.
