MAYTAG to the Rescue

I will never again complain when my very old—I mean OLD—Maytag gets a bit off-kilter and looks like it might jump out of the laundry room. Nope, no complaints from me.

I have no idea where or when this was taken.

  1. I wonder just how clean beating and kneading clothes actual got them! It looks like back breaking work.

The sailor in the back left looks circa 1910-ish.

    1. The water, at best, looks very murky. The thought of down on my knees trying to clean the clothes makes me have a lot of respect for those who must wash clothes this way.

  2. There's an American sailor in the picture. The uniform is from the late 19th century through the late teens, early twenties of the twentieth century. Plenty of dated pictures on the net.

    1. I knew he was US, but wasn't sure of the exact time period other than pre-30s. The woman look southern European with possibly olive trees.

  3. Here in NC we call that artisanal handcrafted laundry. It costs a bit more but it's organic and phosphate free.
