Is it really the END OF DOWNTON ABBEY?

I recently read a report that due to the success of Downton Abbey there was a chance that a spinoff series would be made taking place several decades after Downton ends. Scripts were written, casting was done, and a pilot episode was made. Alas, it was determined that perhaps it was an unwise decision. The mucky-mucks at Lionsgate refused to air the pilot. In fact they asked that it be destroyed. Ahhhh, but one single image exists to prove that it did happen.

I'll let you decide if not going forward was a wise decision.

  1. My mother, a war bride from Great Britain, was in service at Hever Castle in Kent. She found it a lot less wonderful than the world of Downton Abbey.

    1. I would imagine being in service was a pretty miserable life. My maternal grandmother was a cook for the wealthy in Harrisburg before marriage.

  2. Here now, that bunch is having a right old argy-bargy! Whatever they're doing I bet there's more divorces than weddings, more horseplay than horses, and more East End louts than West End toffs.

    2. I have indeed. Many years ago I decided to take a three month holiday in Britain based largely on what I knew from the series Upstairs Downstairs. (which I think was much better than D.A.) For the first few weeks, I even stayed in a B&B around the corner from the Bellamy house in South Kensington. I became such an Anglophile I ended up staying nearby in Earls Court for over 2 years. It was how I met the English woman who is now my wife, and the person in charge of correcting my grammar, spelling, and pronunciation, among my many other colonial shortcomings.

    3. Well I'm envious of your extended stay. I spent a month with a rental car and my maps and books. Had a fantastic time going to lots of stately homes and castles. I don't remember the downstairs ever being part of any tour. Well, except at Carlisle Castle where you could go into the jail cells. That is about as downstairs as anyone would want to be.

  3. That server would be fired on Downton - what with her arms smack in the dude's face!
