ROCKING HORSE all night long

Did you have a rocking horse as a child? I know I had one because there is a photo of me sitting on it grasping the reins with one hand, one hand thrown over my shoulder as if riding a bronco, a paper crown on my head (part of a birthday card which I still have), and a big smile. I don’t know what ever became of that horse. I don’t even remember it. I do have memories of the spring loaded monsters that you bounced and rocked on. If you got going really good on one of those you could turn it into a ride that had your parents saying, “Slow down! Slow down!” I remember doing this, but I don’t know if I had one of these horses or if I just went nuts on a neighbors horse. If you were to put one of those horses in front of me today I’d probably do the same thing only now I’d be saying to myself in that little voice that fears falling, “Slow down you stupid old woman!”

And if this little fellow looks familiar it's because he's from the Three Buck Big Box of Photos.

hahah, yeah, I hjad one of those as a child myself. I think the spriong horse was one of my favorite toys as a child. I used to get on it, every chance I got. I used to get crazy on my spring horse. From time to time, I still think back on it, and think it's be sort of fun to do all over again, hahaha. From time to time, I look on the internet to see if there are any larger sized hobby spring horses.

    1. Wouldn't it be grand if they made them in adult size? The newest cardio craze. I can imagine a room in a gym with everyone decked out in their stylish gym gear all riding big spring horses. Actually, I think they'd probably be pretty darn good for exercise. And A LOT OF FUN!

There was a horse that was larger being sold on ebay back in 2003. That one was a large sized one that the seller stated was suitable for both kids and lightweight adults. There's an even "bigger" size one I'm waiting for. Sometimes, "I" think it'd be kind of fun to do again too. Other times though, nnnnot so much.

I'm waiting for the horse my aunt & uncle's relatives have. Their kids are using it actually. Anyway, the reason I'm waiting is because the one their kids have is a bigger size one. Although, "now" the horse's frame is missing. I found out the frame got bent out of shape, so it was tossed out. I think the horse still has the remaining accessories though. That particular horse is one that "I" consider to be the biggest one out of "all" of the many I've seen for sale online over these past 10 1/2 years. If I go to their folks' house, I'll take some photos of it. I saw the whole thing assembled back in 1998 sometime. The rocking horse in my aunt's & uncle's basement of their house at the time. The horse had the springs and metal frame at the time. The horse was later given to their reletives' kids and they've had it ever since. I kept asking them about it several times. I think they want to part with the horse, I might buy it from them. I think I would try to rebuild it. I'd have to get another frame fabricated though. I'd replace the dowel rods and attach stronger springs, the metal coil kind.

    1. I guess they don't have that horse anymore. I guess it got wrecked, from what the oldest daughter of these parents was telling me in an email.

  4. Wouldn't that be grand! So many things we physically outgrow have more than sentimental value. A good spring loaded rocking horse is one of them. Even a trycyle. The three wheeled cycles that are made scream "OLD FOLK COMING THROUGH" on them. I want a little red one like I remember as a kid. There was something wonderful about making sharp turns on it going downhill.

I remember having one of those too. I used to have one of those "big wheel" kind of riding toys too. I guess, a lot of children used to peel out on em' and do other trcks on em too. lol.

If somebody wants to see what the horse looks like. my aunts' & uncles' reletives kids have, I can take some photos of it, if I go to their house sometime. The one "they" have is what I consider to be the biggest size one, out of all of em'. I think it's probably the "last" one on the planet. I just hope they haven't, or don't throw it away. I can post measurements too. Just call me, cdog.

Another thing I miss, is all the friends I made growing up, even through school. We would all go play tag football ay the nearby park all the time. I think back on the good times I had over the years. I sure do miss it.

    1. I agree. I moved so much that I have few connections with any of those childhood friends. Friendship was based on having fun. Not the same these days.

  8. My aunt and uncle's relatives no longer have that bigger spring horse I was talking about previously. I guess it broke, so they threw it away. The horse was the biggest sized one out of all others too. Im considering it to have been the last one on the planet of its size and style too.

    1. I'd like to think it's still out there somewhere with someone enjoying it and not a pile of wreckage.
