JANICE Always Got What She Wanted

I have no idea what this little girls name was. I've named her Janice because there was always a Janice and she looks like a Janice.

Oh to be able to have listened in when her parents had the discussion of her posing for a portrait and she insisted on wearing her cowgirl outfit and gun.

She looks so normal in the first four shots, but by the fifth she's starting to look a bit loco. By the sixth she knows she's won.

This little buckarette is my submission for Sepia Saturday this week. Just a silly child's portrait I shall call "A Portrait of Janice."

  1. Janice is a perfectly nice name, but she looks more like a Valerie to me. My first thought on looking at the photos was - there goes Valerie acting up again. :)

  2. Love the badges on the cuffs of her gloves! I, too, had a cowgirl outfit when I was little but, alas, no photos of me wearing it!

    1. You're like me. Not one shot exists of me wearing either of my little outfits. One was a hand-me-down that had to be pinned so that it wouldn't fall off.

  3. Well, if I were Janice wearing my spiffy new cowgirl outfit with fringe, a gun in holster, and a satin blouse with whatever those cuffs might be called, I'd sure want to have some photos taken. Birthday or Christmas? Maybe she was spoiled, or perhaps some other reason for the costume...being part of a parade, play, or club? Thanks for the glitter!

    1. I think she might have been dressed for some sort of dance routine. You can see what looks like a bit of leg with tights on one side.

  4. Janice was so proud of that outfit wasn’t she?

  6. Up until the last photo, I was wondering what was on her hands. A very cute cowgirl in her outfit, even if she is developing a look of exasperation in the end.

    cute cowgirl outfit.

    1. I have found snapshots of kids in cowboy outfits with those type of cuffs on their arms, but they seem to have been rare.

  7. Hollywood created the mythical fantasy world of the Wild West, which started with cowboys and then added cowgirls after someone realized there was money to be made in satin costumes. Cowgirls were always sidekicks at best, never the lead. And never ever on the wrong side of the law.

    1. I can remember taking turns as to who was going to be the hero and who was going to be the sidekick. I even put a couple snapshots in my book of kids who just had to be the sidekicks.

  8. What strikes me is the quality of the photographs - whoever took them knew what he or she was doing in terms of all the technical stuff. Great photos - perfect match for the theme.

    1. I think she might have been part of a dance troupe and that perhaps a photographer was hired to take shots of all the dancers individually. I'd love to think that somewhere out there is a series of little girls dressed like this.

  10. Best of all, I like your descriptions of the photos - of how 'Janice' was feeling, especially toward the end. Fun!

  11. Perhaps she could have been cast as Jason's helper in Friday 13th?
