The FEZ FELLOW caught in midsentence

I know nothing about this fellow in the fez. It's a photo that's been in the bin at the antique store for a long time. I often come upon it, laugh, then put it back. This last time I figured it was fate. If nobody else had wanted him it was obvious I was going to finally be the sucker to take him home.

Every time I look at this photo, even now that I own it, I always think he's wearing one of those hornrim glasses with the fake nose and mustache attached. He isn't. That's all him, but it catches me every time.

As to the clutter that surrounds him? I haven't a clue. I'm sure someday someone will come along and explain all of this to me. Perhaps some shortwave equipment? He's definitely channeling something.

  1. An excellent find. In an abandoned photograph it is often the things in the background that are more interesting than the subject. With a little luck and a hi-res scan one might be able to read that calendar or identify those stamps.

  2. He appears to be married. The fez? Maybe he is a Shriner.

  3. Definitely radio equipment of some kind. You know, you can buy those fez hats still. I picked up one for a friend and we called her the Poobah for quite a while. :-)

  4. Yes, I need to enlarge to look at the details. I enlarged it originally to 400%, but just not large enough to really see what's going on in that pile of stuff.

I thought of Shriner too. And what a kick it would be to have one of those old hats.
