When DISASTER HITS THE BEDROOM!

When I saw this week's Sepia Saturday image I knew exactly what photo I wanted to post. Disaster? You want to see a disaster? I've got a disaster for you. The problem became, "Where did I put that shot?" Some photos are nicely filed away if they are to be part of a series, others not so lucky. This one took awhile, which meant I got to sort, which meant I got to peruse, which meant I got to say, "Oh, I'd forgotten about this one."

There are only two legitimate reasons for what appears in this photo. Two! No more than two!

1. This is Hurricane Hannah who had nightly swirling toys in her bedroom. When you turn on the lights everything settles around her. Turn off the lights and it's all swirling again. Hannah lives in Kansas so this is pretty normal stuff.

2. This is Magnetic Mabel. Mabel's mom has given up asking her to clean her room. In fact her mom has asked her to stay in her room because whenever Mabel leaves her room this stuff follows her...and then everything else metal in the house follows her. Neighborhood kids think it's cool when Mabel comes out the door with the Mixmaster and toaster oven—with her dad's toast inside—tagging along behind her.

I'm sure you can come up with your own reasons as to why this little girl is cornered by her toys.

It's a disaster I tell you! A complete disaster!

  1. I was expecting to see a teen-ager's room with a floor piled high with clothes. Never would I have anticipated seeing a little girl with a mess like this! What a charming photo (though I'm glad I'm not her mom).

    1. When I saw it I knew I had to have it. My toybox looked like this, but never my room. Well that's what I tell myself with my foggy memory.

  2. I vote for Hannah. Only a major F-5 storm queen could cause that much wreckage. The diagonal wallpaper even makes me queasy. Didn't she become a writer on Pixar's Toy Story?

    1. I think you nailed it. Toy Story indeed!

  3. Wow! That's one huge catastrophic mess! I was really bad at keeping my room cleaned up - especially as a teenager. My Mom used to pass by my room and sigh, then ask me to at least keep the door to my room closed. :)

    1. My aunt gave me a Lucy from Peanuts flag to hang on my door that said something like "I hate people..." and I can't remember how it ended. Below it I put a sign that said, "Warning: A teenager lives here." So people were warned before entering to tread lightly.

  4. Yes, this photo looks somewhat familiar, and my granddaughters have probably been there (or may still be somewhere in that room). It's especially like this after Christmas.

    1. Yes, Christmas morning. Exactly. But what on earth was happening with this child. There is another shot of her sitting on her bed with her big eyes turned to the side.

  5. I think she visited me today. Of course, her parents never expect her to help pick up, so I usually look like this little girl after a day with the grandbaboo.

    1. She does have one of those "I can't take it anymore!" looks. I bought a photo of a kids birthday party that had one boy staring at the camera screaming. It summed up how I felt about so many days when I was overwhelmed with life.

  6. Reason #3, when asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, her answer was hoarder. Welcome back.

    1. That's it! She hoarded toys. Imagine the guys from American Pickers sorting through this pile.

  7. From disaster comes a future architect/engineer with ability to stack, balance and create a tower of toys. The doll and dollhouse must have been favorites as they got to be on top...even as they were a bit askew. Great photo.

    1. I hadn't thought of that, but I think you're on to something.
