This Is WHAT COLLECTING IS ALL ABOUT

Take a little time to read this wonderful article at the NY Times about an old photo album. It's exactly what a collector of vintage photos dreams of.

  1. Wow! That was a beautiful story. Thanks for posting a link. One line stood out for me, a quote from the niece who cleans out her aunt's home and puts the album out with the trash. "I’m not a keeper." It's the grand cycle of one man's trash is another's treasure. So the world turns, with all the non-keepers leaving stuff around for us keepers to find.

    1. It is heartbreaking to think this could have been hauled away to the dump. I wish people would consider donating old photos to places, such as even the Goodwill that sells them online. There's someone out there that will treasure the old images. I think I'm about to gain control over several photo albums that document an RV group that lasted for around 35 years. I'm looking forward to it.

  2. Oh my! What a story!!! Wouldn't that be cool if the same thing happened for you? With the series with the lovely lady and her Army husband. And with the "frown" family kids?

    1. I was thinking the same thing. I wish someone would step forward and tell me their story.

  3. What an incredible story. Thank you so much for pointing me there, T+L, and I just happened to visit your site because I was notified by a comment being made on some long forgotten post.
I'm full of admiration that you're still going strong here. I've rather let the Photo-Sleuth blog go, and haven't posted there for almost two years, although I'm still very active in the photohistory field. Actually, I'm working in it now!
Anyway, greetings and my best wishes for you continuing the blog.

    1. Brett it's good to hear you're still knocking around. I wondered what became of you. I'm hanging in, but have been away from posting for many months. I needed a break. I guess some of my enthusiasm is missing what with life intruding in complicated ways. Take care.
