DISNEYLAND in November 1955

The first time I went to Disneyland it had only been open for a few weeks. There was a lot of area still under construction, lots of dirt. Didn't matter to me because I was entranced.

The person that took this vintage snapshot visited a few months after I did. This shot was taken in November 1955.

  1. What a wonderful opportunity! I remember the first time I visited there I wanted to work for Disney. Did not happen of course! It was such a creative place. They had just figured out how to make automated dinosaurs.

    1. I too wanted to work for Disney until I was in art college and was talking to a friend's mom who had worked there in the animation department. It was not open to women in the animation department other than as inkers. All day, every single day, she colored in Mickey's ears. That sort of cured me. Then while living in L. A. a friend applied for a job. They were open to her working there, but you basically had to go back to school on the Disney campus to start all over in drawing.

    1. I used to get there about every five years. Now it's been over 25. I miss it.

  3. Mickey has a lot to answer for, whenever he finally goes to meet his maker. Which is like never.

    1. I keep wondering how they're going to keep their copyright.

  4. Mickey's long term ownership is not governed by copyright, but as a trademark. Trademark protection is pretty much open ended.

    1. That's right. It's the early films that are in trouble.
