WAR baby
Offhand I can't think of any images that I own that would be similar to the Sepia Saturday prompt this week. I have to go with the backstory of the image, which is war.
I have no idea when this vintage snapshot was taken, but I can imagine it being during World War II when a young mother wanted desperately for her family to once again be together.

That is indeed an interesting and clever family portrait.
ReplyDeleteI hope it actually happened, that the family was reunited.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic photo!! I would love to know when it was taken also.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a sad photo.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother told met that when my grandfather was away at war, their infant son claimed every man in uniform as his dad, which was very embarrassing to my grandmother.
I think that's pretty common. The details of faces had not gotten a chance to imprint before the father was shipped out.
DeleteThat's a wonderful photograph, taken, I suppose, by a proud mother wanting to share the moment with her husband who's away serving overseas.
ReplyDeleteI can't see the image very well but it looks like she's taking the photograph with a Brownie camera and, judging by the proportions of the height and width of the print, I think it might have been a Six-16 Brownie Junior, manufactured from 1933 till 1941. You'll find a good photo of that camera here. I'm guessing the print measures roughly 2½ " x 4¼" in size?
Indeed that is the size.
DeleteA beautiful photo that matches those taken by major photographers. Even if it was an accidental snapshot it is still unexpected art.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great when a photo tells the story and we hardly need any words!?
ReplyDeleteThat's a real 'snapshot' that carries so much meaning. I wonder if the mother intended to get herself in the shot too. EIther way it's a treasure.
ReplyDeleteA lovely posting and I liked the way you chose your theme of war baby.
ReplyDeleteSuper photo. I'd be proud of that.
