Sometimes you want to go WHERE EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME

This weeks Sepia Saturday, for me, is men at their gathering places. Places where they spit and shoot the breeze. Where they can scratch and not need explain why. I give you two images from my book Tattered and Lost: Telling Stories

I can't help but think of the theme song from the tv show Cheers:
Making your way in the world today takes everything you'vegot. Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.Wouldn't you like to get away? Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came. You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same. You wanna be where everybody knows your name.

  1. I have several photos in my collection of men gathering during or after a drinking party, and sometimes it's obvious that they are very much under the weather. I think these two must have been taken fairly early on during the session.

    1. Yes, I think the evening was just beginning. I also think the bartender had already heard their stories many times before.

  2. How I love that second photograph, what a group! can you imagine walking into a bar and finding that foursome sat around : even I might be tempted to abandon the bar and head in search of a coffee shop.

  3. I think beer is nearly as common as coffee this week!

  4. Somehow I don't think the second group would be interested in 'Ice for Sale' they seem ready to have a relaxed smoke or two.

  5. Fun post, and I loved singing the Cheers song as I read the words. Thank you, and Happy Easter!

  6. The lyrics from Cheers are a perfect fit, but I think the clientele for a bar would be different from those at a cigar shop. I think the second group is an owner and employees.

  7. I see they had ice for sale too; what a strange mixture, ice and cigars.

    1. Indeed. It reminds me of a little store in the Sierra's where you'd go for fishing tackle, worms, and milkshakes. I'm sure it's long gone, replaced by some franchise.

Years ago my husband and I visited the Cheers bar in Boston, but no one knew our names.

  10. Makes you wonder why someone got the idea to take a photo. Was it a friend or did they grab a passing stranger?
